This book was wonderfully strange and poetic. I love short story collections, but I don't think I've ever read a collection quite like this one. Each story takes a magical twist on a basic human emotion or a common situation people find themselves in--cheating husbands, loss of a loved one, etc. The result is a compilation of beautifully odd characters and places that the reader ends up feeling connected to even more than they would if the stories were told without the magic. This is Wood's first novel, and you can bet I'll be picking up any and everything she writes in the future.
